Susannah Faucette Battle (7 Apr 1774 – Feb 1846)
Susannah Faucette Battle was born on 7 Apr 1773 in Nansemond County, Virginia, a daughter of Jesse Battle and Susanna (Faucette) Battle (1025; 43, Page 202). In 1777, the Jesse Battle family migrated from Nansemond County to Edgecombe County, North Carolina; Susannah Battle was about four years old. Before 20 Feb 1787, the Jesse Battle family migrated from North Carolina to Greene County, Georgia (43, Page 202).
On 21 Dec 1789, Susannah Faucette Battle married John Ragan in Greene County, Georgia (436). At her marriage Susannah Faucette Battle was 15 years old. A son of Jonathan Ragan, Sr. and Rebecca (Shearin) Ragan, John Ragan was 23 years old. On 12 Mar 1792, twin children were born to John Ragan and Susannah Faucette (Battle) Ragan (879). Apparently, these first two children died young. A son, Simon Ragan, was born to John and Susannah Ragan on 15 Jul 1792.
A daughter, Serene Ragan, was born to John and Susannah Ragan in Hancock County, Georgia on 30 Oct 1794 (373), and a son, Elam Sharron Ragan was born in Hancock County on 7 Feb 1797. A third son, Jesse Battle Ragan was born to John and Susannah Ragan in Hancock County on 4 Sep 1799 (1003).
Between Mar 1802 and May 1812, five additional children were born to John and Susannah Ragan: John Ashburn Ragan on 4 Mar 1802, Lazarus Battle Ragan on 27 Feb 1807 (465), Isaac Ragan on 16 Dec 1809, and Susanna Ragan on 12 Apr 1812.
Before 1816, the John Ragan family migrated to Marion County, Mississippi where they were enumerated by the Mississippi Territorial Census (1024). The 1818 Mississippi Territorial Census enumerates the John Ragan household in Lawrence County, Mississippi (428). On 4 Nov 1819, John Ragan created the original plat for the town of Mount Carmel in Covington County, Mississippi in parts of Sections 22 and 23 in Township 8 North of Range 18 West, comprising 74 lots (527).
The 7 Aug 1820 federal census of Lawrence County, Mississippi enumerates the household of John Ragan, age 45 years or older (145). A female between 26 and 44 years old was presumably Susannah (Battle) Ragan. A male, 16–18 years old; two males, 16–26 years old; a female, 10–15 years old; and a male, 10–15 years old were also living in the household. The John Ragan family was enumerated in 1823 and 1824 by the Mississippi state census of Lawrence County (611).
On 30 Apr 1830, John Ragan died in Covington County, Mississippi at age 63 years (465, 498). Subsequently, Susannah (Battle) Ragan married William Fairchild, Sr.
On 2 May 1842, Susannah (Battle) Fairchild made a will in Hinds County, Mississippi (189). She died at Pearl River, Mississippi on Feb 1846 at 71 years of age.

2 May 1842
I Susanah Fairchild of the County of Hinds and State of Mississippi do make and publish this my last will and testament. And first I direct that my body be decently intered and that my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my situation in life. And as to such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to intrust me with, I dispose of the same as follows: First I direct that my funeral expenses and debts if any should exist be paid as soon after my decease as possible out of the first money that shall come into the hands of my Executors from the hire of my Negroes or be paid by them in consideration of the labor of said Negroes. And I give and bequeath to my daughter Serene Robertson my Negro man Cupid. I also give and bequeath to my son Lazarus B. Ragan girl Delana and her infant child Quintus as well as any children said girl may have previous to my decease. I also give and bequeath to my said son Lazarus B. Ragan the following aged servants to with man Anthony Dave and Dorian Cloe. I also give and bequeath to my three children Jesse B. Ragan, John A. Ragan and Rebecca Jones all the real estate which I shall die seised or possessed. I also give and bequeath to my daughter Serene Robertson my Negro man Tom. I also give and bequeath to my grand daughter Susan E. Ragan my gold watch. And I do hereby make and ordain my son Lazarus B. Ragan and knisman Robert Jones executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I Susannah Fairchild the testatent have to this my will written on one sheet of paper set my hand and seal this second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two.
