Maude Ellen Griffith was born at Geneseo in Rice County Kansas on 25 Feb 1879 (165). Maude was a daughter of Michael John Griffith and Agnes Leticia (Livingston) Griffith. At her birth, Michael Griffith was 25 years old, and Agnes was 18.
The 1880 federal census of the Empire Township of Ellsworth County, Kansas enumerates the household of Michael Griffith, 26 years old and born in Ohio (1036). Michael worked as a laborer. His parents were both born in Ohio. Michael’s wife, Agnes (Livingston) Griffith was 21 years old, and both of her parents were born in Pennsylvania. One year-old Maudy Griffith was born in Kansas.
The 1 Mar 1885 Kansas State Census enumerates the Michael Griffith household of the Empire Township of Ellsworth County, Kansas (1041). Michael Griffith was 31 years old, and Agnes (Livingston) Griffith was 23. Three children lived in the household: Maudie, five years old; Sarah, four years old; and one-year old Clara Griffith. Michael and Agnes Griffith were both born in Ohio. At the 1 Mar 1895 Kansas State Census of the Empire Township of Ellsworth County, Kansas, M. J. Griffith was 42 years old, and A. L. Griffith was 35 (1042). Six children lived in the household: Maud, 16 years old; 13 year-old Sarah; 11 year-old Clara; 9 year-old Lizzie; 7 year-old Emma; and one year-old Truman Griffith. Six children were living in the Fred Countryman household: George Countryman, 13 years old and born in Kansas; Cornelia Countryman, 11 years old and born in Kansas; Lewis Countryman, 10 years old and born in Kansas; Paul Countryman, 10 years old and born in Oklahoma; Frank, 4 years old and born in Oklahoma; and Dorce Countryman, one year-old and born in Oklahoma.

Both of Fred Countryman’s parents were recorded as born in New York. Both of Maude Countryman’s parents were born in Ohio. At their marriage, Fred Countryman was 30 years old, and Maude Countryman was 17 years old. Fred G. Countryman held real estate valued at $1,500.
Agness Montgomery, a daughter of Fred and Maude Countryman, and her husband Cyril E. Montgomery were living with the Fred G. Countryman household. Agness Montgomery was 19 years old and born in Oklahoma. Cyril E. Montgomery was 24 years old and born in Oklahoma. At their marriage, Agness Montgomery was 19 years old and Cyril E. Montgomery was 24 years old.
The 7 May 1940 federal census of Fairview in Major County, Oklahoma enumerates the Fred G. Countryman household (779). Fred Countryman was 73 years old and born in New York. His wife Maude E. Countryman was 63 years old and born in Kansas. Fred Countryman responded to supplemental questions to state that his father was born in Holland and that his mother was born in New York. Fred Countryman completed school through the 8th grade. He was working as a Blacksmith. Fred owned the property he lived in, and Fred and Maude Countryman were living in the same house in 1935. The census enumerates the household of Fred Countryman’s oldest son, George W. Countryman at the adjacent property.
Fredrick Glonar Countryman died on 11 Nov 1948 of injuries he incurred during an assault and robbery at his blacksmith shop behind his home in Fairview, Oklahoma (782, 786). At Fred’s death, Maude Ellen (Griffith) Countryman was 69 years old. She continued to live in their Fairview, Oklahoma home.
Maude Ellen (Griffith) Countryman died on 27 Jan 1960 at the home of her daughter, Fannie Lee (Countryman) Emanuel, in Oklahoma City in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. At her death, Maude Ellen Countrymen was 80 years old. Her remains are buried in the Fairview Cemetery at Fairview in Major County, Oklahoma.

Maude Ellen (Griffith) Countryman
Mrs. Maude Ellen Countryman, daughter of Michael and Agnes Griffith, was born at Geneseo, Kansas, February 25, 1879, and departed this life January 27, 1960, at the age of 80 years and 11 months.
She was united in marriage to Fred G. countryman february 16, 1896, at Midway, Kansas. This union lasted 52 years, and to it were born 10 children, Mr. Countryman preceding her in death August 11, 1948, and one baby, Henry Countryman, November 17, 1921.
In April 1913, the family then consisting of 7 of the children, came to Fairview Oklahoma. The other 3 children were born in Fairview. In 1919, a home was purchased on the corner of Maple and So. 3rd Ave., where Mrs. Countryman still resided at the time of her death.
Early in youth, she united with the Christian Church, and for her baptism, ice was broken on the river near her parents’ home in Rice County, Kansas. She united with Central Christian Church in Fairview _____ and was a very active member to the time of her death.
Beloved by all who have known her, she leaves to mourn her loss 4 Sons—George, of Fairview; Louis of Oklahoma City, Paul of Winton, California, and Frank of Lawton, Oklahoma. 5 Daughters—Mrs. Amelia Summers of Grenola, Kansas, Mrs. Doris Knoop of Miami, Florida, Mrs. Agnes Malcom of Alpine, Oregon, Mrs. Fannie Emanuel of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Georgia Sutton of Los Angeles, California. 33 Grandchildren; 31 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Brothers—Mr. Truman Griffith of Calumet, Oklahoma, and Mr. Arthur Griffith of Topeka, Kansas.
4 Sisters—Mrs. Sarah Pierson of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; Mrs. Clara Kaipe of Enid, Oklahoma; Mrs. Emma Johnson of Springdale, Arkansas; Mrs. Pearl Stroud of Compton, California —
And a host of other relatives and friends.
