Notes and Comments
The assessor may have struck through the record on a 1798 Warren County, Georgia tax list assessing James George, Jr. of Jones District for land on the Oconee River in Hancock County.
Assuming that Mary Hunter (
Hardin) George was 59 years of age at the 1830 census, the ages of those recorded with the James George, Sr. household are reasonably consistent with other information. In 1830, Mark Alexander George was 27 years of age, married and enumerated by the census of Monroe County, Georgia. In 1830, William B. George was about age 34 years. Perhaps his wife died before 1830, and the unidentified male, age 10-14 years, and female, age 5-9 years, were his children. The 1850 federal census of Jones County, Georgia enumerates William B. George, age 55 years, living alone and working as a farmer. Finally, the suffix Sr. associated with James George as head of the 1830 household may be with respect to his son James Hardin George.
James George, Jr. has not been identified in the 1800 federal census.
