Will of Thomas Briscoe
In the name of God Amen, Thomas Briscoe being weak in body but in sound mind do make this my last will and testament. In the first place it is my wish that my three friends, that will be hereafter named my Executors shall continue to work and carry on my plantation until the proceeds shall pay all my just debts, then it is my wish that my personal property shall be divided as follows; In the first place I give and bequeath to my beloved wife (Viney and her two children also Jerry a negro man and his wife , Charlotte, _____ In the Second place I will and bequeath to my eldest Son Claiborne Tap, a negro man, Sarah, Buck, Abram, Joseph & charles and Dolly_____Lastly to my second and youngest son, I will and bequeath Moses, Morgan, Betsey, Lousia, and her child, and Malilnda and Henry. It is my further will that after my debts is paid that my Executor, shall sell my real estate with the stock on hand on a certain credit of One, Two, Three & Four years, the proceeds of which to be equally divided between my three heirs Except that it is my will that eldest son’s legacy, shall be made worth five hundred Dollars more than Either of the other two, which two I wish made equal, and for the purpose of carrying this my will into Execution I do appoint my three friends William Briscoe, Pamenas Briscoe and John Grison Executors and to Almighty God I commit my Soul.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 18th Day of April One thousand and eight hundred and thirty two.
