Evan Lewis (ca 1719 - 1766)

Evan Lewis was born in about 1719. His father was likely Thomas Lewis of New Castle County, Delaware.

Evan Lewis and family migrated from New Castle County, Delaware to North Carolina, arriving by 7 Apr 1752 when he acquired 1,200 acres of land in Anson County on 7 Apr and 10 Apr 1752. Mecklenburg County, North Carolina was formed from parts of Anson County in 1762. In Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Evan Lewis and others from New Castle County, Delaware settled on the south side Catawba, south side Fishing Creek. Fishing Creek is now in South Carolina.

On 10 Apr 1752, Evan Lewis acquired 600 acres in Anson County, North Carolina joining the south side of Indian Creek and the south side of the Cataba River.

On 17 Apr 1752, Evan Lewis acquired 600 acres in Anson County, North Carolina on the north side of the First Branch next to the South Fork of the Cataba River and on the south side of the said Fork.

Between 1752 and 1758, Evan Lewis and family migrated from North Carolina to Burke County, Georgia.

On 24 and 25 Oct 1755, Evan Lewis and his wife Mary Lewis (Hayes) sold to John Moore for £30 of Virginia money 600 acres of land on south side Cattawba, south side Indian Creek, being the 600 acres granted to Evan Lewis on 10 Apr 1752. In Feb 1758, Evan Lewis petitioned for 350 acres of land in Burke County, Georgia at the Head of a Branch of Briar Creek called Walnut Branch already settled by the petitioner. At the time of the petition, Evan Lewis was married and with six children.

On 24 and 25 Nov 1763, Evan Lewis and his wife Mary Lewis (Hayes) sold 600 acres in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina to Hugh Shannon. Research Notes

Evan Lewis arrived in North Carolina from New Castle County, Pennsylvania in 1752 with a large family. One of his brothers was Alexander Lewis, who later was a surveyor, Justice of the Peace, and Sheriff of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

Mecklenburg County, North Carolina was formed from parts of Anson County in 1762.

Abel Lewis

Abel Lewis, b: 1784 and d: 7 Dec 1847 in Burke County, Georgia lived most of his adult life at Waynesboro in Burke County, Georgia. He was a Deacon of the Brushy Creek Baptist Church, a Justice of the Peace, and a Tax Collector. A 27 Jul 1818 survey plat made for Elijah Johnson shows land owned by Abel Lewis, Esq. adjacent to Elijah Johnson property and property of the heirs of Lewis Emanuel.
