Biography notes for Simon Miller
Simon Miller ca (1670 - 1720)
Simon Miller was born in about 1670, likely in Rappahannock County, Virginia. He was a son of Symon Miller, a shipwright and immigrant to America from England. Margaret (Prosser) Miller was Simon Miller's mother; Margaret Miller was married previously to John Prosser. Simon Miller was under age when his father died in 1683.
Simon Miller resided in Richmond County at least by 14 Jan 1692 when he gave land to Thomas Parker, a school master in Essex County. Simon Miller made a deed to Thomas Parke, school master of Essex County, for as much land as Thomas Parke shall have use of until his death, when the land will return to the Miller estate. This land was in Richmond County on the north side of the Rappahannock River, on the back side of the plantation of Mr. Hugh French and on the further side of a Marsh of Water between the line of Mr. Anthony Savage and the line of Robert Paine. Rees Evans and Samuel Jaques witnessed the deed. The deed was recorded 20 Jan 1693.
On 20 Jan 1699, Simon Miller and John Miller witnessed the Will of Hugh French. The Will was filed in Richmond County, Virginia on 3 Dec 1701. The Will of Hugh French names wife Margaret as executor. Margaret French was the widow of Symon Miller, father of Simon Miller of Richmond County and John Miller.
Simon Miller resided in St. Mary's Parish in Richmond County, Virginia.
On 1 Dec 1719, Simon Miller made a Will in Richmond County, Virginia. The Will of Simon Miller of Richmond County names a son Simon Miller and daughters Jane Miller and Eleanor Miller. An inventory of the Estate of Simon Miller was recorded on 4 May 1720.
The landed estate of Simon Miller fell into King George County during the year following his death.
Notes and Comments
Rappahannock County in the Virginia Colony was created on 11 Dec 1656 from Lancaster County. On 26 Apr 1692, Rappahannock County was eliminated with the creation of Essex and Richmond Counties. Simon Miller's father may well have held land in Rappahannock County that in Apr 1692 fell into both Richmond and Essex Counties.
