Hinds County, Mississippi
2 May 1842

I Susanah Fairchild of the County of Hinds and State of Mississippi do make and publish this my last will and testament. And first I direct that my body be decently intered and that my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my situation in life. And as to such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to intrust me with, I dispose of the same as follows: First I direct that my funeral expenses and debts if any should exist be paid as soon after my decease as possible out of the first money that shall come into the hands of my Executors from the hire of my Negroes or be paid by them in consideration of the labor of said Negroes. And I give and bequeath to my daughter Serene Robertson my Negro man Cupid. I also give and bequeath to my son Lazarus B. Ragan girl Delana and her infant child Quintus as well as any children said girl may have previous to my decease. I also give and bequeath to my said son Lazarus B. Ragan the following aged servants to with man Anthony Dave and Dorian Cloe. I also give and bequeath to my three children Jesse B. Ragan, John A. Ragan and Rebecca Jones all the real estate which I shall die seised or possessed. I also give and bequeath to my daughter Serene Robertson my Negro man Tom. I also give and bequeath to my grand daughter Susan E. Ragan my gold watch. And I do hereby make and ordain my son Lazarus B. Ragan and knisman Robert Jones executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I Susannah Fairchild the testatent have to this my will written on one sheet of paper set my hand and seal this second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two.

Signed, sealed, published and declaired by the above named Susanah Fairchild as and for her last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto in the presence of the said estate and in the presence of each other May 2d 1842.
