Biography notes for Duncan Bohannon
Information on the descendants of Duncan Bohannon is derived from his will.

On 22 Jun 1756, William Churton surveyed a 205 acre plat of land in Orange County, Georgia for Duncan Bohannon, Jr. Edward Trice and Joseph Bohannon served as chain carriers. The plat describes the land as being on New Hope Creek.

On 21 Nov 1756, Duncan Bohannon, III surveyed land on the Deep River and Rocky River in Orange County, North Carolina, and on 14 May 1757, he received a warrant for 640 acres. On 21 Sug 1759, a patent was issued for 695 acres on the South side of Deep River above the mouth of Rocky River.

On 31 Mar 1780, Duncon Bohannon, III was granted 174 acres on Great Beaver Creek of the waters of New Hope in Chatham County, North Carolina. The warrant for this land was entered on 19 Dec 1778 (Deed Book 32; Page 182). Also on Mar 31, 1780, Duncan Bohannon, III was granted 200 acres on both sides of the Horsepen Branch in Chatham County, North Carolina. The warrant was entered on 22 Oct 1779 (Deed Book 32; Page 193).

On 14 Jul 1785, Duncan Bohannon acquired 200 acres of land on Newford Creek adjacent to other land he held by deed from George Dooley. Witnesses: Holman Freeman, John Clarke, Jr., and James Curvin. (Source: Wilkes County, Georgia Deed Book 1784-1785; Partial pages unbound; Page 44)

According to his will, Duncan Bohannon held at least two tracts of land, presumably in Lincoln County, Georgia. Each tract comprised 250 acres. One 250 acre tract was know as the Dooly Tract, and was bequeathed by Duncan Bohannon to his son Wyley Bohannon. (Source: Will of Duncan Bohannon)

In the name of God Amen I Dunkin Bohannon of the County of Lincoln and State of Georgia planter Being Strong in mind Thou Weak in body do make this my Last Will & Testament & Revoking all others do give & bequeath my worldly good in the manner following (viz)

I leave to my well beloved wife Every Earthly thing I do possess both Real & personnally During her Life or Widowhood She having it in her power to lend to any of my Legatees or Children hereafter named any part of the Said property during her Life So that it is the part or any part Bequeathed them in this Will & not Exceeding that part Which I give them

I give my son William Bohannon One negro man named Jacob to him an his heirs forever and to his son at his Death by the name of Dunkan one negro girl named ___________ to him & his heirs forever and to his other son in Like manner by the name Wyley one negro girl named Matilda to him & His Heirs for Ever

I give to my Daughter Obedience Manning Wife of Edmond Manning one negro man by the name of Joe and I also give to Simion Manning son of the said Edmond one negro girl by the name of Prissey at the Death of his mother to them & theire heirs for ever

I give to my Daughter Prudence Moss Wife of Alexander Moss fifty Dollars and to there son at the Death of his Mother By the name of Dunkin J. J. Moss one negro boy by the name of Chistos to them & there Heirs for ever.

I give to my Daughter Piety Whitmon Wife of Nathan Whitmon one negro boy by the name of frank and to there Two sons namely Boby A. Whitmon & Rolin B. Whitmon at the Death of there Mother to be Equal divided between them one negro girl by the name of Rose to them & there heirs for ever.

I give to my Daughter Majory Moore Wife of William Moore one Negro Man by name of James & one negro girl by name of Corley to them & there Heirs for ever

I give to my son young Bohannon one Set of Black Smith Tools and all he has at this time or What I have give before to him & his heirs for ever.

I give to my son Wyley Bohannon One still & Two Hundred Acres of Land Known by the name of the Dooly Tract Adjoining the Tract I now Live on to him and his Heirs forever.

I give to my son Budy Bohannon Two Hundred Acres of Land Where I now Live and all the appertainance there unto belonging Also one Waggon & Give to him & his heirs forever

I give to my Daughter Christiany Bohannon One Negro Woman Savirey & her Two Children Antick a boy & Cealey a girl & all there Increase & Two fether Beds & furniture one Desk one Large Looking Glass One Sorrel Horse Two Cows & Calves to her & her Heirs forever.

I give to my Daughter Sinthey Bohannon one Negro Woman by the name of Hannah & her Child a girl named Edy & Two fether Beds & furniture one Large Looking Glass One Bearreu Two Cows & Calves one Brown Collored Mare and there Increase forever to her & her Heirs for ever

My Desire is at the Death of my Wife that all the property Both Real and personally be Equally divided Between my son Isiah and all my before Mentioned Daughters Which is not in this Will And Every One of my sons & Daughters to have and to hold All the property I have Given in My Life Time to Each of them.

In testimony Whereof I have hereunto Set my Hand and affixed my seal this 24th of March in the year of Our Lord
