Ambrose George ca (1749 - 1802)
Ambrose George was a son of Joseph George, born in Orange County, North Carolina. In his Will made on 14 Feb 1770, Joseph George named his son Ambrose as executor, and thus Ambrose George was born before 14 Feb 1749 in order to be age 21 years and qualified to serve.
In 1778, the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina adopted “An Act to lay off and establilsh a Town near Chatham Court House on the Plantation and Land formerly the Property of Ambrose Edwards, now entered in the Land Office by Ambrose George, in said County.” The Town and Town Commons were named Chatham.
