According to family legend, George made use of the multitude of fruit that grew wild on the family land in Prarie Township by way of a brandy making business. Unfortunately, George's debts cost him most of the land in a series of law suits and counter suits. His first son Emanuel helped him with deliveries. Emanuel eventually gave up the brandy business and moved to Iowa where his Uncle Christian had co-founded Hitesville. (Source: Tim Hites)
