Biography notes for Rowland Lawson
Rowland Lawson I was in Lancaster County, Virginia by 20 Jul 1633 when his brother Epaphroditus Lawson witnessed a bill of sale by John Davis of Kiskiacke, Planter, to Thomas Curtis.

On 15 Feb 1642, Epaphroditus Lawson was granted 1,400 acres in Upper Norfolk County described as upon New Townehaven River, running northwest by a bay side called Mount Lawson, adjacent More Fontleroy, etc. south southeast by the side of a creek called fang ford, etc., northeast by New Townehaven River, etc. east by the side of Baverly Creek, etc. and near John Lewin. 450 acres by assignment from Bartholomew Hoskins, Admr. of John Bridges, of two patents, 300 acres by two former patents, and 650 acres for transport of 13 persons: Epaphroditus Lawson, William Lawson, Lettice Lawson, Jonathan Palmer, Abraham Moone, Robert Arden, Neale Fee, Jonathan Cricklock, Neale Billahea, Rowland Lawson, William Harper, and Peter Taylor. Rowland Lawson and his wife Lettice Lawson (Wale), William Lawson, and Epaphroditus Lawson traveled together to the Virginia Colony with transport paid by Epaphroditus Lawson.

On 20 Jun 1651, Mr. Rowland Lawson was granted 1,300 acres of land situated in Rappahannock River, on the northward side, beginning on the eastward side of the mouth of Cherry Point Creek, and adjacent land of Richard Jones; 900 acres part formerly granted unto Epaphroditus Lawson and by him relinquished and the rights assigned unto his brother, and the residue for transport of eight persons.

Between 1652 and 1655, Rowland Lawson served as a Justice of the Pease in Lancaster County, Virginia.

Rowland Lawson died in Lancaster County, Virginia before 8 May 1661, when his will was filed. Probate of the will of Mr. Rowland Lawson was granted in Lancaster County, Virginia on 8 May 1661.

The seal on the original copy of the Will of Rowland Lawson II bears acoat of arms depicting three marlets between a chevron. As documented in Lancaster County records on 14 Sep 1668, the orphans of Mr. Rowland Lawson were Elizabeth Lawson, John Lawson, Henry Lawson, and Letitia Lawson. His son Rowland Lawson II was of age. Rowland Lawson I and Lettice Lawson had eight children.

14 Sep 1688 Lancaster County, Virginia records show that the orphans of Mr. Rowland Lawson were Elizabeth Lawson, John Lawson, Henry Lawon, and Letitia Lawson. Another son, Rowland Lawson, was of age.

The 5 Jun 1703 will of George Harward of Lancaster County, Virginia names Epaphroditus Lawson, his wife's eldest son (a minor) and her son John Lawson; also a legacy to Catherine Lawson.
