Calvin G. Woodcock was born in about 1798, likely in New York. His parents have not been identified. In about 1819, Calvin Woodcock married Sarah A. Gould in New York, and by 1820, Calvin and Sarah Woodcock were living in White Creek Township of Washington County, New York. The 1820 Federal Census of Washington County, New York enumerates Calvin Woodcock, age 16-25 years; a female, age 16-25 years, presumably Sarah Woodcock (Gould); and a female older than 45 years.

Between 1820 and 1830, three children were born to Sarah and Calvin Woodcock: Ebenezar G. Woodcock in about 1821, Mary Ann Woodcock in about 1824, and Chloe Woodcock in about 1826. Before 1830, the Calvin Woodcock family migrated from Washington County, New York east to Oneida County, New York.

The 1830 U.S. Federal Census of Florence Township in Oneida County, New York enumerates the household of Calvin Woodcock, age 30-39 years, and a female, age 20-29 years and presumably Sarah Woodcock (Gould). Also living in the household were a male age 5-9 years, a female age 5-9 years; and two females less than 5 years of age. Presumably, two of the older children were Ebenezar G. and Mary Ann Woodcock, and one of the younger female children was Chloe Woodcock. The other female less than five years of age has not been identified and perhaps died young.
